Home Health Aide Job Description

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate orally in English
  • Must have reliable means of transportation
  • Ability to understand written care plans
  • Ability to write simple reports
  • Provide evidence of physical health
  • Negative drug screen result
  • Continuing education on blood-borne pathogens and HIV/AIDS (provided for free)
  • Certification on assistance with self-administered medication (provided for free)
  • Certification on HIPAA (provided for free)
  • Alzheimer’s training as required by State of Florida (provided for free)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Two business references

 

DUTIES UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A LICENSED NURSE, MAY INCLUDE:

  • Follow the written care plan and nursing orders in each client’s home
  • Observe and report anything unusual regarding the patient to the Nursing Director
  • Assure client safety
  • Assist with active/passive exercises
  • Provide for personal care needs, such as bathing and toileting
  • Measure and record temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure
  • Assist patient with ambulation
  • Assist patient with dressing and eating
  • Plan and prepare meals, including clean up
  • Perform light housekeeping, laundry, and household management chores
  • Measure and record fluid intake and output
  • Encourage self-help abilities
  • Assistance with self-administered medications
  • Escort patient to appointments
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Maintain a chronological written record of service
  • Fulfill educational requirements every year
  • Maintenance of colostomy excluding irrigation and/or changing wafer
  • Other duties as assigned by office and/or client
  • Assist client with transfers from bed to chair, chair to bed, from sitting to standing position

 

DUTIES DO NOT INCLUDE:

  • Sterile dressings (except to re-secure a loose bandage)
  • Nail clipping (aides may file or clean nails only)
  • Irrigation of body cavities, colostomies or wounds
  • Gastric lavage or gavages
  • Catheterization
  • Application of heat
  • Tracheotomy care
  • Personal health services not listed in Plan of Care

DRESS CODE:

  • Nursing style uniform or scrubs. Clean and neat.  Client may request other attire, please discuss with Bayshore
  • Closed toe shoes with non-skid soles (rubberized) such as nursing shoes or white based athletic shoes
  • Clean, short fingernails
  • Conservative hair styles and jewelry
  • Bayshore name tag
